Stewart Brand was the editor of the Whole Earth Catalog back in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_Earth_Catalog). This was a compendium of all thing hippiedom, groovy and back-to-the earth. I’m feeling the positive waves just thinking about it. After the golden age of hippieness died he remained active in the ecology movement.
In 2009 Stewart published Whole Earth Discipline:An Ecopragmatist Manifesto. In this book he covers many “Green” topics and the interesting thing about this is that he rethinks some of the sacred cows and moves away from the tree hugging party line. In particular he embraces nuclear power and genetically engineered organisms. Interesting.
Earlier this year I read an article about a massive solar power project to be built in the SW American desert and the tree huggers want to block it because it would be in the natural habitat of some small furry animal. It must be hard to be an environmentalist these days.
Give me tap water in a clean glass, please.
