I took part in a phone survey today and, although the interviewer wouldn’t tell me so, it is pretty obvious it was commissioned by a group gearing up to bring a casino to CR. I have several thoughts on this subject (yes, I have an opinion)
I cannot think of a financial vehicle that more efficiently redistributes wealth from the poor to the wealthy, If the Occupy Wall Streeters do not protest this gross injustice it lays bear their indifference to the plight of the poor.
At the same time, the libertarian in me says that at least this is a voluntary redistribution of wealth, as opposed to the TARP Green investments that took my money and gave it to Obama’s cronies in the solar energy industry (although there are less of them now than there were 3 years ago.)
The nature of the questions completely ignored the facts that there are tremendous social costs incurred by the community when this false hope of a better tomorrow spirals into addiction or leaves families struggling to feed themselves spending their money at a casino. The survey also ignored the fact that the profits will be flowing out of the community to corporations in other parts of the country.
I’ll risk being labeled a conservative naysayer blocking progress by campaigning against this one should it come to a vote again.
I gotta go…it may be time to nip this in the bud by writing my councilman…once I figure out who it is.
