Bruce Braley made me laugh today. He is the Democratic candidate for the Senate from Iowa and he sent me an email today called “Bad Medicine”. It said:
Since the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision, out-of-state special interest groups have flooded our airwaves trying to sell us their snake oil.
But here’s the thing: It’s bad medicine and Iowans know it.
Even though Citizens United has taken a hacksaw to our campaign finance laws, we have the chance to bring fairness and transparency back to our elections. But only through the power of supporters like you fighting together.
Iowa and the rest of America’s middle class deserves more from our democracy than being drowned out by special interest money.
OpenSecrets.org tells me that one of the largest contributors to Bruce’s campaign is a law firm called Weitz & Luxenberg. Apparently their specialty is medical malpractice lawsuits. When I googled them I could not find an office in Iowa. It appears that Braley is second only to Harry Reid on their donor list. Reid got $44k and Braley $37k. Hahahahaha. According to OpenSecrets, again, Lawyers and Law firms made up the biggest industry donor to Braleys campaign, over $1.1M.
Also from OpenSecrets…the Senate Majority PAC has spent $316k on Braley’s campaign versus $56k from the Tea Party. Bad medicine indeed.
One final laugher from the Braley campaign: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/03/26/why-bruce-braleys-farmer-from-iowa-remark-hit-a-nerve-back-home/
Well, you get what you pay for.
I gotta go…and find a kleenex…big money in politics is making me cry.
